VIRTUAL Fair Housing 101

7:00 PM - 8:15 PM

Event Details

Everyone has the right to live where they choose free from discrimination. Join representatives from Open Communities to explore the fair housing rights and responsibilities that both renters and housing providers need to know. This presentation covers the broad protections in the federal Fair Housing Act, discusses local protections in Illinois as well as in Cook County, and helps community members understand how to recognize violations and take action. Also learn the rights of people with prior justice involvement when applying for housing and how to conduct a tenant screening.

Open Communities advocates for fair housing and fights discrimination. They do this by educating, advocating, and organizing to eradicate housing discrimination, in all of its forms and against all persons, due to race, color, national origin, religion, gender, gender identity, sex, sexual orientation, disability, familial status, or source of income. They provide housing counseling services, including foreclosure and default counseling, financial coaching, rental counseling, pre-purchase and homeownership education, mediation and consultations, and community education programs to make communities in Chicago's suburbs welcoming for everyone.

This program will be presented using Zoom. Participants must register and provide a working email address to receive the login information.
