4:30 PM - 5:30 PM

Event Details

For grades K and up with their families.
Discover how books get made during an after-school program with local children’s authors Cozbi A. Cabrera and Amy Alznauer. Get a behind-the-scenes look at how authors research, write, and illustrate a book. Along the way, you will learn about two fascinating figures — Flannery O’Connor and Gwendolyn Brooks — who not only lived at the same time but both wanted to grow up to be writers. This program will inspire young artists and writers as well as delight anyone who loves picture books.
Cabrera is the illustrator of the award-winning Exquisite: The Poetry and Life of Gwendolyn Brooks (written by Suzanne Slade) and Alznauer is the author of the New York Times Best Children’s Book The Strange Birds of Flannery O’Connor: A Life (Illustrated by Ping Zhu). After the presentations, the audience will have a chance to ask questions and chat with the authors.
This program will be presented using Zoom. Participants must register and provide a working email address to receive the login information.
Co-sponsored with the Prospect Heights Public Library.
